I know all of these thoughts like the back of my hand.
I’m Maggie, and I have had my fair share of battles with diets and weight loss.
However, after I gave birth to my son, I reached new level of excess weight and emotional turmoil. In March 2017, I knew I had to make a change, or continue spiraling into depression and staying stuck at a weight that didn’t feel good to me. This is where my keto journey began—16 months postpartum. My reason for keto and getting off sugar was so that I could beat the debilitating postpartum anxiety and depression that plagued me since having my son. My starting weight was 192 lbs.
I didn’t know much about keto or if it would work for me. But anything was going to be better than how I had been feeling, so I decided to dive in.
It took me 19 months to lose 52 lbs.
So much trial and error, emotional eating, and falling off the wagon for weeks and sometimes months. After finally losing the weight, I got pregnant again, in October 2018.
I didn't know if I would be able to lose the weight a second time?
After my second baby...
I knew it was time to kick shit back into gear. My starting weight was 177lbs. Not quite as much as the first time, that didn’t mean it was going to be easy.
Even though my first postpartum weight loss was riddled with mistakes and learning curves, I felt that I was in a much better position and would be able to have a clearer roadmap. I was confident in my ability to lose my baby weight again using the new tools I had learned to avoid all the off-keto eating.
I did it again, in half the time.
I lost all of my baby weight by May 2020. Down 33lb without all the drama of the first go of postpartum keto. No weight-loss rollercoaster or confusion, just the tools to plan and follow through without the resistance from my brain.
In fact, I was so amazed at how simple it all was. And the fact that I was able to do it twice? Now that my body had no more babies to grow, I knew this was a lifestyle I could keep.
I knew that the tools I had learned were something I could pass on to others. At this point it almost felt like a responsibility.
